Event Highlight: Supporting Immigrant Youth in the Bronx

Youth and young adults face a range of barriers that impact their stability, well-being, and ability to move forward. From mental health challenges to housing instability, family disruption, and limited access to resources, many are navigating systems that are difficult to understand and even harder to access.

In the Bronx, one of New York City’s most diverse boroughs, over one-third of residents are foreign-born, reflecting a rich mix of Caribbean, Latin American, African, and other immigrant communities.

For immigrant youth and young adults, these challenges are often compounded. Language barriers, cultural adjustment, unfamiliar systems, and limited trusted guidance can make support feel distant, even when it exists.

Through community-centered engagement, Youth Breakthrough Initiative creates space for young people to be heard, supported, and connected to what they need.

One truth continues to shape our work:
Access is not the same as availability.
These moments reflect our commitment to ensuring that support is:
  • accessible
  • trusted
  • culturally responsive
  • rooted in real life
Because when young people are met with the right support, they are better positioned to move forward with confidence, stability, and hope.
